Geophysics Postdoctoral Scholar (post 89975, 24 months plus possibility for extension)

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s (LBNL) Earth & Environmental Sciences Division has an opening for a Geophysics Postdoctoral Scholar with expertise in reservoir geomechanics and seismology to join our multidisciplinary team.

You will contribute to projects involving subsurface energy applications with emphasis on geological CO2 storage, induced seismicity and geothermal systems. Particularly, you will continue furthering our leading position in applied distributed fiber optic sensing techniques such as Distributed Acoustic Sensing.

The candidate should have a solid knowledge of signal processing as well as of reservoir processes and fluid-mechanical coupling relevant to large-scale deployment of geologic carbon storage and induced seismicity. Experience with machine learning techniques and big data applications is a plus. With the candidate’s vision for tackling a broad range of challenging subsurface problems, such as induced seismicity, multiphase flow and seismic hazard assessment and mitigation, they are expected to lead this postdoctoral position to success. This is a two-year position with the possibility of extension.
